8/26/6 RC MEETING & MK ALL-STAR BAND 

David Vargas '81 opened the doors of his fine establishment, The Sapphire Lounge, to a group of more than 60 alumni for the last Reunion Committee meeting and an awesome first practice session of the MK All-Star band.

CASH FLOW: $46,205 has been collected via ticket sales and alumni donations.

COMMITTEE UPDATES:

- Alumni Bio Book: Mike Lucero '81 has offered his printing company's services to print and bind the Bio Book.  A cost-savings of more than $2300.  Thanks Mike!
- Alumni Dinner Video:  All photos have been submitted for editing.
- Beach Party: Plans are in place.  A class-vs-class tug o' war and volleyball tournament is planned.  We are anticipating 500 alumni and family members at the beach.
- Decorating: Dana Faucetta-Bullock '81 brought samples of floral arrangements to the meeting.  Elaine Elwell-Stearns '82 provided samples of the party favors.
- Displays:  Not all class years submitted items for displays.  A combination of all years will be represented on approximately 10 boards.
- Memory Book:  A post-reunion project lead by Brigitte Trenzini '82
- Registration: Gina Chavez '81 & Cathy Luna '81 have a full roster of volunteers for the Grand Ballroom; JoAnn Guerrero-Barbadillo '80 will coordinate the Pacific Ballroom registration activities.
- Remembrance and Military Displays: Information is being collected by Ave.
- Silent Auction / Door Prizes: Items should be sent to Ave.

REUNION TIMELINE REVIEW:  The floor plans for both ballrooms were reviewed and approved.  A timeline of events will be available at the Registration tables in both ballrooms the evening of the event.  Volunteers are requested in the Grand Ballroom at 2:00 p.m.  The Pacific Ballroom will begin set-up at 4:00 p.m.

MK STORE & BANNER:  A 5' x 5' banner was shown to the group.  It will be on display above the stage.  It will be loaned to future committees for use at reunions.  Wine glasses, coffee mugs, tees, etc., have been ordered to be sold the evening of the reunion.

SECURITY:  Larry Landless '82 has five security guards that will be assisting the evening of the event with crowd control.

DONATION TO MK:  A check of the proceeds from fundraising activities will be presented to the school on November 3rd at the Homecoming Game against Alhambra High School.  All are invited to attend and participate in the presentation.

The meeting concluded at 3:00 p.m. and the MK All-Star Band played on...!

6/24/6 - HOTEL SITE VISIT AND RC MEETING

Rick Garcia '74 hosted 36 alumni and friends last night in Newport Beach.  Rick - thanks for the evening!  Everyone had a wonderful time on the Angela Louise!  We accomplished a lot of business and also sold 16 tickets - nice job everyone!

CASH FLOW: $19,980 in tickets sales; $760 in donations received-to-date.  We have a $1012 deficit to cover.  We MUST sell the remaining tickets to cover costs!  The July deposit of $3500 has been paid.  Next (and final) payment of $22,500 is due on September 1st.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS:  We will have an "MKHS Store" the evening of the reunion and we'll be offering tank tops for the beach party; coffee mugs; shot glasses; koozie cup holders; CDs/DVDs of the dinner video and raffle tickets.

MEDIA: In addition to the announcements we received on KBIG, we are pursuing other opportunities in media to assist in communicating our event to alumni.

HILTON SITE VISIT: Brian DeJesus '80 - 20 alumni participated in the walk-thru at the Waterfront Hilton.  Logistics were discussed with Catering and A/V Departments, location for video screens identified (great idea Brian!); Registration, Display and Silent Auction table locations identified.  Photographer location may prove difficult - need to contact him to discuss space requirements.  We may move one bar to the pool terrace - need hotel approval on this item.

COMMITTEE UPDATES: 

- Alumni Bio Book: Reminder e-mail to be sent to all alumni that have purchased tickets when last ticket is sold.  Deadline is August 1st for submission.
- Alumni Dinner Video: In progress
- Beach Party: Deseree Rocco-Padilla '85 has offered to cater (at cost).  We may request a $2 - $5 donation to assist us in paying for food/beverage.  Volunteers were requested for set-up and also sporting equipment, fire wood, ice, ice chests, and easy-ups.  Volunteers can sign-up on the reunion website message board.
Decorating: In progress
Displays: '77 & '81 complete (Ave to send to Darryl); '85 delivered to Darryl.  The committee members were asked to assist in ensuring the safety of the items and yearbooks that will be on display.  Tear down of the display area is scheduled for 10:30 p.m.  We will need assistance in transferring items that evening.
Memory Book: We'll review at next meeting
PeopleSearch: Completed.  However, Joey Caruso '81 can still conduct searches for additional "Lost" alumni.  Contact him via the website.
Registration: Gina Chavez '81 & Cathy Luna '81 prepared a tentative assignment log.  Volunteers requested and may sign up on the reunion website Message Boards.

Silent Auction/Door Prizes: Deanna Perez-Marinez '85 announced the donation of a Staple's Center luxury suite (Clipper's game) and a jeroboam of Zaca Mesa wine provided by Cushman & Wakefield!

MKHS Dodger Day - alumni have the opportunity to attend a baseball game in late July.  Please contact us if there is interest in participating.

OPEN FORUM

Richard Gorman '85 addressed the need for all to make contact with alumni that have not yet purchased tickets.  We need some e-mail and telephone networking to happen immediately to assist in this effort.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

- 10200 hits on the website; more than 300 profiles posted by alumni
- Rick Garcia '74 has offered us the use of his riverboat to cruise Newport Bay for the next Reunion Committee Meeting!

CASH FLOW: $13,590 collected-to-date (tickets and donations combined).  We have a current negative cash flow of $648 with many promising fundraising opportunities.  Have paid $4000 of $7500 deposit monies to the hotel.  We have funds in the reunion account for the final payment but need to promote tickets sales to cover other expenses coming in June & July.

BROADCAST E-MAILS: Music poll, Dinner Video photo request, and People Search e-mails have been sent.  Bio Book and ticket sales reminders to be sent on June 1st.

COMMITTEE UPDATES: 

- Alumni Dinner Video:   Ave has scanned 40 photos from each yearbook for Mark Nakamine '79 to incorporate in the program.  WE STILL NEED PHOTOS...

- Beach Party: John Caruso '80 gave an overview of plans for some contests/games (flag football game, volleyball, tug-of-war, boogie board/surfing contest, etc).  Ideas need to be firmed up and a budget developed - need to send out a reminder e-mail for alumni to RSVP to this party. 

- Decorating & Display Committee:  There will be a site visit of the hotel on June 24th at 2:30 p.m.  Anyone interested in attending is welcome.  Decorating Committee members should come along so you'll know the space for planning purposes.  Need a budget for this project.  

The visit will end by 4:00 p.m. in order to head down to Newport for the RC meeting and harbor tour...

- Registration: Cathy Luna '81 & Gina Chavez '81 have 30 people signed on for registration duty!  They'll also help keep an eye on displays and auction items for us.

- Silent Auction / Door Prizes: Reviewed the list of businesses we are soliciting to and asked participants to check with their respective employers to see if any would be willing to donate services, products, sporting event tickets, etc., to the cause.  We need everyone's help with this one...

OPEN FORUM

- Entertainment:
  John Avila '75 discussed the musicians and music to be performed.  He's been in touch with a few very talented alumni from years gone by interested in playing for us.  Discussion was held regarding holding practice sessions at his gigs at The Brass Elephant prior to the reunion.  Alumni are invited to attend - dates will be posted on the home page of this website. 

- "Sponsor a Teacher" - Gina Chavez '81 discussed an idea for class years interested in sponsoring faculty members.  An e-mail to be sent to all classes soliciting interest.  A webpage will be developed to track teachers nominated and donations collected for this project.

- Reunion Items for Sale: T-Shirts, shot glasses, coffee mugs, beer steins, to be offered on website and also sold at reunion.  Need to work on graphics and product list.  Funds collected will go towards beach party.  Excess funds to be donated to MKHS

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

- 1000 Postcards ready for mailing on 3/27/6.  Requested and received approval to order an additional 1000 to complete mailing. 
- Photographer identified (2 plus 1 assistant @ $500 for the evening)
- We'll be meeting at the Hilton in June to walk the venue and taste test menus.  Date to be confirmed at next meeting.
- Broadcast e-mails from website to be utilized going forward for all updates

COMMITTEE REVIEW HIGHLIGHTS:

- Alumni Bio Book:  Decided that bios will be included in a CD/DVD format to save printing costs.
- Alumni Dinner Video: Mark Nakamine ('79) discussed need for photo submission.  RC has subscribed to an on-line service to upload photos.  
- Beach Party: John Caruso ('80) reviewed plans tentatively to include: BBQ & beverages and some organized beach games (RC to supply prizes).
- Decorating: We'll be contacting alumni planning to stay at hotel to enlist help.
- Displays: Darryl Griffen ('80) will be coordinating the efforts of the 15 classes participating.  Ave to identify reunion contacts for each class.
- Door Prizes/Silent Auction: Ave has mailed 200 soliciation letters-to-date.
- Memory Book: Brigitte Trenzini ('82) will work with Lidia Korinko ('81) on this project.
- Music: A poll will be posted on the website (by class year) listing music choices for the dinner video (1 selection) and reception/dancing (5 selections).  Majority rules!    Music selected will be relayed to DJ to include on the playlist for the event.
- Registration: Gina Chavez ('81) & Cathy Luna ('81) are coordinating this effort.  15 volunteers identified for 30 minute shifts.  May need more help on this.
- Remembrance Display: A listing of alumni that have passed away will included as a display in the ballroom foyer.

CASH FLOW PROJECTIONS:

- We have collected enough in tickets sales to pay immediate expenses.  We currently have a negative balance of approximately $500 (including the additional 1000 in postcards & postage expense.)  We have identified many revenue generating opportunities to cover the short-fall: Silent Auction, Alumni Dinner Video, T-shirts for beach party, advertising in Bio Book, Memory Book sales, and post-dinner "Door" tickets.

- NEXT MEETING SCHEDULED: Saturday, May 13th in Alhambra, at The Sapphire Lounge.  Info will be posted on the "Home" page of the website and the meeting notice will be sent to all committee members and volunteers by Wednesday, May 10th.
