My 10 year reunion was supposed to be in 2020. But the locked down happened, and so I am hoping I'll get my Romie and Michelle moment now. 🥳

comment by Sharon Morton Anderson. ‘60

Yes, that really says 1960. I just recently found this site and after checking all messages, couldn't find any comments back this far. Just want everyone to know there are still some of us kicking around. We still drive, see the world on cruise ships and see the US in our RV. I know there are a number of us out there, we used to have luncheons, but not recently. My husband graduated from Keppel in ‘58 and we will celebrate our 65th wedding anniversary in July. Hope some others who graduated ‘54 to ‘60 will see this and contact me. Good luck to all attending the reunion.

comment by Rich Archuleta

The last time I asked this question was in 2015 it’s now 2025. Anyone who went to Keppel live in Austin Tx. ?

comment by Dan Noble Class of 75

So looking forward to seeing my fellow Aztecs for our 50th.

The All-ClassReunion was held yearly, from 2002 to 2012. We always had a great turnout. I miss those reunions, first held in Laughlin, then Reno, and the other ten were in Vegas, NV. I hope you all will have as great a time as we did. I miss those reunions and the friends we made.

My sympathy and prayers go out to the relatives and friends of the Ortega family.  Such a senseless tragedy.  Most of them attended Ynez, Cantwell and Mission.

A shame more names arent listed here from 1969.  We were a very unique class of kids back then.  My best to all those still here....

I remember the store on hellman and new ave., but never heard any stories about it. I want you all to know that I heard about the reunion too late :(. but sure would like to attend the next one!

comment by Doug Melendez

I remember that store on New Ave. and Hellman, we used to turn in Coke bottles for a nickel. I'm not sure but rumor had it, that someone got murdered in that store I think it was even in the ice room. And thats the reason the store closed forever. anyone else hear this story?

comment by Matt Marquisee '73

Hey Tony, I remember going to that store. Whatever happened to them? They still live there? They were all one family, right? I seem to remember that they all shared one trait; a HUGE posterier. I'm sure I'll get grief for this, but maybe some old timers can back me up.

comment by William (Bill) Campos '81

Hey, who's going to the Great Skate??? What do you want to hear?? Yeah, I got it!!! "Couples Only!!!"

comment by Grace Naval'84

Well hello everyone, I would like to send my belated greetings of Happy Thanksgiving to all the wonderful Alumnis in the Guest Book. Although, it's one week late but, I haven't been in this website for quite awhile...However, I am here for those who would like to stay in touch with me..Anyways, I had recently changed my work schedule to graveyard shifts that really rattled me up..Ayee..yayee, I did not anticipate is the craziest decision I had made of being wide awake in the Wee Hours... Perhaps, listening to my "Old School" music while working sure helps me a lot to wake up.. Have A Bless Week Everyone!!!!..God Bless.. Gracie P.s...What am I thankful for?...The MKHS Alumnis statistically been the beautiful people in Monterey Park that keeps young spirit at heart.

comment by Ave Hoyos-Capozello '81

I recently posted information regarding alumni that had passed. There was a request made that I delete references to one of those persons. I did - including all references to that person in the Guest Book. Please know if anyone has any objection to items posted about themselves or their loved ones on any part of this site, it will be deleted immediately - as it was this morning. Many alumni have come to use this site as a way of keeping in touch and sharing information with each other. Some prefer to keep the information private. I want to respect everyone's preferences and privacy. So, my apologies if the recent postings offended anyone. And to those that posted the very nice messages regarding your classmate - apologies for the deletion. Different strokes - different folks.

comment by Suzi Bohne

Nuh-uh...I might be the last one!!? I just viewed all the party pictures from The Sapphire lounge, and all I can say is WOW. Too bad I missed that. Great Homecoming pix, too. Sherry the hallguard is still there??? Was busted by her for numerous offenses...but she was bad ass and I was afraid of her.

comment by Matt Marquisee'73

WOW no new entries for three days! This might be the last one. Check out the new Message Board page. I've already posted on a few categories.I'm looking forward to reading anything that Steve Lustro has to write about on any subject on this page. If anybody can jar my memories, it's him.

comment by Tony R. Valdez - 80'

I worked since my freshman year at the little Ice house store on the corner of New Ave. & Hellman. The white haired lady named Irene was the owner. The MKHS/T.G.& Y. crew had a blast working there...Myself, Karen 80', Robin 79", Michelle 79' & Ann 79". Those were some crazy times, especially the one night we got SO drunk after we closed the store. LOL

comment by Elizabet Liz Cruz-84

I'M SO HAPPY,AND I'D LIKE TO SHARE MY HAPPY NEWS WITH EVERYONE. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DIDN'T KNOW OR REMEBER,WAY BACK DURRING OUR HS YEARS IN 1983 I SUFFERED A BRAIN ANURISUM, AND BECAUSE OF THIS I WAS A LITTLE SCARED TO DRIVE, BUT I FINALLY OVER CAME MY FEAR, AND I OFFICALLY PASSED MY DRIVING TEST, AND I'M NOW AN OFFFICAL LICENSED DRIVER LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

comment by Ave Hoyos-Capozello '81

It was Alpha Beta on Garvey & Jackson across the street from Garvey. I got the job the day I turned 16 - made a whopping $50 a week pushing carts and bagging groceries! Other MK alumni worked there: Vivian Vasquez, Yamille & Bobbie Calderon - there were a lot more but I can't remember their names.

comment by Janet 80'

True story: My good buddy Ave worked at a grocery store on Garvey and Del Mar in Rosemead, she was in 11th grade. (Pushing carts for a living caused her to have way buff arms, and studly legs.) I can't remember the name of the store - help me out here...maybe it was Albertsons?

comment by Ray De La Garza

The Great Skate, no way! Let me see if I can find my 7th grade skating partner Marilyn Murray and meet you all there.

comment by Geri Varela

Thank you Ave for such a great evening. My brother Richard and sister Janet were there which was so fun. It was something I will never forget. The night went by so fast. I missed my friend Vicki and I will call you soon.

comment by Becky

Sounds like a walk down memory lane with the old stomping grounds, Beaches Market, Del Mar Foods, yes just to name a few. Does anyone remember the old Foster Freeze on the corner of New Ave and Garvey? I believe there is a 7-11 now in it's place or the T G & Y in what used to be Alpha Beta shopping center across the street from Garvey Jr. High. My parents lived on Newmark till about 2 years ago and whenever I would drive the area, it all would come back. It sure has changed. We were just talking about this recently. Those were the days!

comment by Diana M. Parra '82
