Class of 1967. It was nice to find this site. I often wondered what happened to many of my class mates. My best to Denise and Diane Delgado, Xavier Arvizu, Les Leonhardt, Mario "Crazy" Sosa, Julia Rosales, Carol Celino, Victor Lomeli, Eugene Garcia and many more. I reside in Imperial Beach, CA. .... It is amazing what path we finally take and the adventures on the way. Although I may not have shown it, I do miss those whose paths I crossed during my time at Mark Keppel High School.
Hello class of 75. Any word on June Raliegh ? or Jim caro ?
Class of 74, looking forward to a good time, Seeing some familiar faces.
78-Hello again everyone, It was great talking with all those who attended last nites meeting, as I joined in by phone. Ave you are doing a great job with this. Am looking forward to seeing so many old and making some new friends at this re-union. Also hoping that Gloria Guerra from class of 80 is able to attend, it will be great seeing you Gloria after so many years, we have lot's to catch up on.
Hi guys, went to see John Avila at the Brass Elephant tonite with Martha, Brigitte and Natalie, great time! He told us of a close friend and band mate, Joey, who recently needed major surgery and now needs some financial help. Being a musician, Joey has no medical insurance. John mixed a CD of Joey's band live at the Old Towne Pub in Pasadena. John is selling the CD for $10 bucks, or you can donate more. Anything you send will be greatly appreciated! Please email John Avila for more info. Thank you in advance for your help & support!
Some have suggested i take my old dj set up just to be nostalgic....here's my list of gear i'm taking...... Realistic mixer and speakers from Radio Shack, Garrrard turntables from the Federated Group, Disco lights i built from stuuf i bought at Ole's and my big ass headphones that make me look like airline pilot. Shoot, I'm set!!!! and i'm loading it all up in my Maverick. LOL!!!!
I know of wonderful geriatric doctor I can refer you all to.
Well, let's see here. Since all the tickets are sold and I can finally relax some (little did you all know that I have been doing most of the work. Ave is just a front). Now I can concentrate on myself and get myself in shape for the big night. Let me do an itemized check of all products I need to accomplish this. OK, I have my Bow-Flex and my Botox. Have my Rogaine and my Nair (ears). Have renewed my Weight Watchers membership along with diet pills. Need the sunless tanning lotion and thank God the tanning salon is right next door to work. Wouldn't want to look like Casper at the beach. Got my Grecian Formula and my Sun In. May need sisters help in picking out some stitch to wear. Got my body stunt double for any radical manuevers on the waves. Oh yeah, I might want to respond to that pesty junk mail I keep getting about the penial enlargement. Ah what the heck. All set! See you all there.
And from the ladies' check-list: Buy 10 cases of Slim Fast to cover meals between now and 9/23, book cellulite-removing body scrub, micro-dermabrasion at dermatologist; hair cut & color, nails, and leg waxing on Friday 9/22, buy bodyshaper just in case Slim Fast sits in the cupboard for the next 1 1/2 months, make spray-on tan appointment; arrange for babysitter (for some of us!), try to remember all the stories we told people at the 20th; and, finally, exchange size 4 dress for size 10 because the Slim Fast cans got dusty! Oh, what the hell, it's easier to just stay home!
No giggles... Ok no more jokes from me
Now this is a reunion worth waiting for. I get to attend with 2 of my sisters, Christina and Phyllis (Cervantes). The music should be great, Can't wait to see and hear John Avila. Looking forward to this!
Hey Guys! Just want all of you to know that DJDAVE (David Lopez) is my bro and he's the best DJ ever so all of you are gonna have a BLAST and just have the time of your lives at the reunion! You better have your dancing shoes on cause he's gonna ROCK! Sorry bro, I won't be able to attend. but can you play, "PLAY THAT FUNKY MUSIC WHITE BOY" by WildCherry for me? Thanks, Love Ya! Your Sis.
Just got an email from Mark Hummel'73. He wants to see as many alumni as possible at his next show. If you want to hear some wailin' blues harmonica, you won't miss it! I even asked him about other musicians sitting in with his band and he said his bass player is always open to it. Hmm...who do we know who plays bass?
Hey Brigitte, steak chicken or shrimp. Dinner is on me babe.......
Awwww snaps i missed the reunion...sorry about that i was over seas at the time of the event...GB Wales...ok next time.. Hi everyone and chat with all soon k..laters
Chris & Pitts was where my parents would get take-out before the poker parties. I think Newberry's was the store on Valley that had the soda counter. Then there was Coronet on Garvey Blvd. There was a small store just east of the fruit stand that was on Hellman & Atlantic where we would get ice cream. That was when we didn;t buy it at Ynez in the afternoon for 10 cents. My best memory is still those darn strips from the stand at Barnes Park! I sometimes stand in front of the cupboard wondering what I needed but I can remember all this?
PS-- Anyone who missed Bill Plaschke's front page story in the Sunday Sports section should really read it. It was an amazing story about a long lasting friendship between 2 former MKHS students. Thanks David Vargas for telling Ave about the article. Perfect timing since so many of us are rekindling old friendships and making new ones.
Hey I remember Woolworths. I worked there my senior year. I used to have nightmares about the lines and ringing up all those darn customers during the Christmas holidays. What a flashback. LOL
Barnes Park Strips. Someone must know the "secret" recipe for the sauce??? I remember a column in either the L.A. Times Food Section or a local paper that would share that info. Things like how to make the purple cabbage salad from Northwood's Inn, etc. I swear they published the strips sauce recipe. Anyone out there have it?
WOW do remember those strips at barnes park, have not had anything tast so good like that since then, the sauce was great. So many great memories and seems like it was just yesterday and not years past. What a great school and community we lived in, only wish sometimes, we could go back to those days, they were great.
Barnes Park strips were one of a kind. I remember Mrs. Zuker ran the snack bar. We'd go there when we were hanging out in the park or after M.P. Sports Club baseball games. Natalie - thanks for pointing out Bill Plaschke's Times column - I saw that too. It got my attention because there were several Sterkels at Keppel around the time I was there (Gary, Dennis, Debbie). I'm sure they must have somehow been related to Jim - anyone out there know? Sorry I missed the fun at the 47-0 blowout and at the Sapphire. Our HUGE donation certainly had to have been the highlight of the game! Becky - I had completely forgotten about how the crew at Der Wienerschnitzel used to write the orders on the back of the bag - thanks for jogging this cobwebbed memory! Gary is correct - there used to be three gas stations at Garvey & New...Shell, Thrifty and Economy. The Economy station used to have the cheapest prices during gas wars - I remember filling up one time at 23.9 cents per gallon! Must have cost me all of four bucks!!
Joey Caruso, MAN, I can't believe I miss spelled hilarious twice. "OK" bro that skit was (HILARIOUS). Ok now I feel better LOL! I guess I must of had one of those brain farts #@*^&%^**#@! LOL! Or am I just getting to dam fricken old. LOL!
Hey Talondi - where are you? Would love to hear from some "old" friends! Even those of you that weren't in Talondi!!! Anne
It was good to see all of you on Saturday, sooo many memories. Mariano, Gary, Oscar, Juan, Pete, hope to see you all at the reunion. Ave is working so hard on this, I want to encourage MKHS Alumni to come out and see your friends and classmates and remember the good times at MKHS. I will be working on the display committee, show your AZTEC PRIDE as we need alumni & items from each year to put together a display for that year. Anyone from 1980 if you have pictures, football ribbons ( i.e. "Kick the Moors!"), buttons, game programs or any other items, please let us know so we can arrange to copy them or use them for the display. All items will be handled with care, labeled (if possible) and returned to you. Pass on the info about the reunion and BUY your tickets now, you don't want to miss this....
OK, I agree with Steve Lustro and Harvey Ledesma; two of my '73 classmates. Where the heck are the rest of you 73ers! Hey, I had no school spirit when I was there, but I've got plenty of it now! If I can get into it , everyone else can too. This reunion is going to be a BLAST...from the past! Like Steve said, we have to show these kids how to do it right!
It was so great to see so many people at the reunion meeting Saturday night! Twohey's onion rings are still as good as I remember!. I hope to see more volunteers sign up. As Cathy said, we need more people to sign up as hosts/hostesses. There are 3 of us from '82, but we need more people. The display committee also needs help gathering items for the many display boards we hope to have. Ave has done an amazing job starting this all up, but it will take many of us to make it the success I know it will be! See you in Sept!
'76 - Hey! Don't know if I can make it since I am not in California any longer but it would be fun to see all the surviving members of Marlboro Country from '72-'78 or so. I spent more time out there or elsewhere than in class so I don't remember too many classmates! I am still in touch with Diane Fellis (Springer), Claire Colvin and Vickie Anderson. Seems like only yesterday....heh.
