I knew Hector from more from Ynez Elementary, I'm guessing, since 5th grade, but we'd run into each other in Keppel's halls. I remember him as always easy to talk to, somebody you'd seek-out and didn't pull any punches if he had an opinion.I was short-cutting with my car behind the stores on the south-side of Garvey and recognized him jogging on Lincoln Ave. He was draped in sweats and a hood, but I recognized him right away. I pulled-up and we talked for a while. He said something about playing for or trying-out for a semi-pro football team and he looked it. Otherwise, he hadn't changed a bit. When we said our good-byes, I felt really good for him.Rest in peace Hector.
